Travel Research International provides national governments, regional agencies and private companies with tourism strategy and policy advice that is formulated through a thorough understanding and wide experience of the tourism sector. We prepare tourism development plans that cover the full range of issues, from infrastructure, quality and supply, expansion and sustainability, marketing and competitiveness, demand trends, and the organization of tourism. Our tourism strategy work is based on a recognition of the need to balance the economic, social and environmental facets of tourism development and leads to implementation plans that are practicable and actionable.

Recent consulting assignments include:

Yorkshire Forward – A detailed review on behalf of the Regional Development Agency for Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Tourist Board and Yorkshire Regional Assembly of the roles and responsibilities in the development and promotion of tourism in Yorkshire and the Humber. The study included wide consultation throughout the region, resulting in proposals for the reorganisation of tourism delivery in Yorkshire.

Government of the Federated States of Micronesia – The design of a detailed tourism marketing and development plan covering the four individual states within the Federation. The plan included consideration of the organisational and institutional aspects of tourism marketing and promotion within each state, taking account of their individual organisational structures and priorities. A co-ordinated 5-year programme of action for the national government was prepared, guided by the need to preserve the Federation’s pristine environment, and a series of state-level seminars were held to present the plan. Following the successful completion of this project, we were commissioned to prepare the tourism section of the National Economic Development Plan, which was adopted by government in 2004.

The UN's International Labour Office – A study of the social impact of tourism in Asia, with particular reference to labour issues in the tourism sector in the region. The report represented ILO's background research briefing for a tripartite meeting on employment in the tourism industry in Asia.
