Travel Research International has worked for a large number of international, inter-governmental and regional organizations on major issues affecting the global tourism industry. Our experience spans the environmental, social and economic factors which are influencing the tourism industry today. Many of these studies have been of a macro nature and have provided the framework for international discussion and debate at major international conferences and meetings. Other work has examined the impact of international trends or events on local level tourism performance and how destinations respond.

Recent consulting assignments include:

World Tourism Organization, Madrid – A study of the impact of climate change on the tourism sector. This study, carried out in association with the Climatic Research Unit of the UK's University of East Anglia, was formally presented in April 2003 at a WTO conference on Climate Change and Tourism, held in Djerba at the invitation of the Tunisian government.

The UN's International Labour Office – A briefing paper on the effects of the terrorist attacks in the USA on the global hotel and tourism sector, with specific reference to the impact on labour markets in the six weeks following the September 11 attacks. This was followed by an on-going monitoring service of the longer-term effects of the terrorist attacks on the international travel and tourism industry.

Government of the UK – A review of the impact of climate change on the tourism sector. This formed part of a major UK study, undertaken by Environmental Resources Management, of the long-term effect of climate change on key sectors of the British economy. The company also assisted the overall study team to set priorities for future research and action in this area.

National Consulting Bureau, Libya/Maxwell Stamp plc – A detailed report on tourism in the African continent. This formed part of a broader submission to the African Union at the Heads of State summit in Johannesburg in 2002, which included an extensive programme of action aimed at assisting African nations in their development process.
